What is STEAM?

STEAM is an educational approach to learning that incorporates Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics.

We believe the Arts have a critical role to play in any comprehensive STEM education, encompassing the creative problem solving and human-centric design thinking that fuel our innovative responses to science, technology and maths problems.

Students with well-developed STEAM skills have bright employment prospects. Jobs over the next 5 years are predicted to increase in professional, scientific and technical services by 14% and in healthcare by 20%.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has estimated that STEM-based employment, such as engineering, has grown 1.5 times the rate of other jobs in recent years.

Aligning with this research includes industry surveys which show that STEAM literacy is increasingly becoming a core capability needed by Australians.

We believe that our education system needs a fundamental change to learning environments needs to ensure we develop innovation, engagement and learning strategies to foster a greater interest in critical STEAM skills.

This renewed focus is shared with our educators and industry leaders - so together we are looking to engage and support STEAM opportunities which increase participation, passion and aspiration. Through this strategy, we will build an ecosystem which provides the necessary STEAM skills and knowledge for a successful future.
