FAQs.

  • Our Program is open to female or non-binary students; studying a STEM or STEM + Arts degree; at an Australian university; ready to begin a career in STEAM e.g. in second year or above of a Bachelor degree or higher.

Our program is designed for people wishing to get 'career-ready'. This generally means students enrolled in post-secondary school studies (usually from second year and beyond), but we allow you to decide whether this describes you.

You should also be intending to gain employment in a STEAM field in Australia (that is, you are looking for employment in your field in the next 12 months).

We also look favourably on applicants who have achieved or are on track to achieve a Credit (or equivalent) average, as this demonstrates to us that the same commitment you show in your studies will drive you to thrive in our Program.

  • Students can apply to take part in our STEAM Ahead Program all year.

We recommend that students in their second year of their Bachelor degree or later should take part so they can prepare for grad and vacation employment opportunities.

We generally don’t recommend that first year students take part as they may not be ready to seek employment in their field yet.

  • Our application form allows you to send a copy of your application to yourself on submission.

If you are concerned your submission hasn't gone through, you can email us at contactus@dreambigaustralia.org, and we'll check we've received it from our end.

You won't hear an update on the status of your application until after our assessment process.

After your application is reviewed, you will be enrolled in the Program and can begin to work through the content at your own pace. The sooner you finish the program, the sooner you can access mentoring opportunities through our monthly newsletter.

  • Applications are assessed based on alignment with eligibility. See ‘Who can apply?’ above.

  • If you have previously applied but been unsuccessful, or had to withdraw, you are welcome to apply again. We don't offer places to students who have previously completed the Program.

Please carefully review the eligibility requirements under ‘Who can apply?’

  • We accept applications from international students studying at Australian institutions who intend to gain employment in Australia.

The purpose of the STEAM Ahead Program goes beyond professional development; it's a win-win for students looking for employment, and for the organisations looking to hire them.

Employment opportunities and grad programs available to students may have some residency requirements. Please discuss these directly with the employer you are considering.

  • Our program is designed for people wishing to get 'career-ready'. This generally means students enrolled in post-secondary school studies (usually from second year and beyond), but we allow you to decide whether this describes you.

We offer a Program tailored to be of most benefit to women and non-binary people as they start their career--perhaps their first job. If you have already completed your studies but haven't gained employment in your field, you may still wish to apply.

We'd love to offer more programs that will benefit aspiring women at different stages in their career journeys, so please stay tuned!

Designed for inclusion.

Inclusion and diversity are at the heart of why Dream Big Australia exists. Our initiatives and promotions are designed for people who identify as women. However, we also open our program to individuals with other gender identities that are underrepresented in STEAM industries. For example, non-binary applicants are most welcome.

We are consciously moving towards adjusting our language to better reflect the inclusive nature of our program, and welcome feedback on how we can improve in this regard. Listening to the voices of people from the communities that we are aiming to assist is paramount to our success in improving diversity in STEAM!
