STEAM skills are the future.

Developing Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) skills is important for building technical skills and enhancing conceptual thinking. The combination of these skills better prepares students to solve complex problems and succeed in 21st century jobs.

Why STEAM not STEM?

The STEM acronym which stands for ‘Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics’ was invented twenty years ago by the National Science Foundation. Although the STEM acronym is commonly misused to promote male-dominated industries, it was originally invented with the intention of identifying which skills will best prepare the next generation of leaders for success in the 21st century.

Fast forward twenty years. By reflecting on the importance of future-ready skills such as collaboration, creative thinking, and problem solving, our leadership team at Dream Big Australia recognised the valuable role of Arts-based skills as technology becomes increasingly prominent in the 21st century.

"It is our belief that the combination of the Arts and STEM skills will best prepare the next generation of leaders for success in their careers."

Students with STEAM backgrounds are crucial for tackling the multifaceted challenges ahead of us, as they have the technical capability and thinking skills to manage, problem solve, and generate ideas through both a creative and analytical approach. This valuable foundation of abilities also allows for greater resilience and long-term capability in the industry. This is why Arts is increasingly becoming so crucial to STEM.

Dream Big’s STEAM Ahead Program provides support for women entering STEM industries to combine the technical STEM-based knowledge from their university studies with career-ready skills including those aligned with Arts-based courses such as empathy, conflict management, and team-building skills.

Our logo.

Our logo combines the international male and female symbols, representing them together to form a sign of positive growth, inclusiveness, and diversity.

We believe it is crucially important to recognise that a gender-equal society benefits everyone as 100% of talent will grow collaborative, inclusive, and innovative teams. Influencing this fundamental change will require men and women to support and empower each other so we can move upwards together (hence the upwards arrow!).

Advance women’s development.

By partnering with us to support women’s careers, you can empower women while accelerating your workplace diversity and inclusion goals.
